The Oakland Family Literacy program provides academic and literacy instruction to parents of students within the Oakland Unified School District, which is comprised of 37,040 students (49% of whom speak a language other than English at home). The program's goal is to develop and increase parents' literacy skills so they can better engage with and support their children’s academic career.
